IUJAT & HHWA Scores a BIG WIN in New York City Elections
Early in 2021, the IUJAT and the Home Health Care Workers of America stepped forward to endorse several candidates we believed to have the vision to lead The Big Apple forward. Now the results are in!
Your Union’s advocacy helped elect Eric Adams, first as our preferred Democratic candidate in the Primary Election and later in the General Election. We are so proud that on January 1, 2022 Eric Leroy Adams was sworn in as the 110th Mayor of the City of New York. Watch him here as he speaks of his respect for our union members and our amazing Home Health Care Workforce.
Our new Mayor was delighted with the endorsement of HHWA. Mayor Adams said,
This is such a significant endorsement. How do we finally end the inequalities that hold back everyday workers? We must come together as a team and look after those workers looking after our most vulnerable in this city. How do we find real ways to put money back in the pockets of men and women like this important groups of employees? I want to say thank you for this amazing endorsement.
On that very same day, the IUJAT and HHWA stood on the steps of Queens Borough Hall with others that sought the union’s political endorsement, as a strong contingent of IUJAT and HHWA members rallied before members of the New York news media, who were gathered.
On that day we also endorsed Adrienne Adams for City Council. Today she has been elected Speaker of the New York City Council!
Speaker Adrienne Adams beamed at the IUJAT/HHWA endorsement, when she shared about the tremendous respect she shares for all of you. She announced:

IUJAT y HHWA obtiene una GRAN VICTORIA en las elecciones de la cuidad de Nueva York.
Al comienzo de 2021, los sindicatos la IUJAT y la Home Health Care Workers of America (HHWA) respaldaron a varios candidatos que creíamos que tenían la visión de llevar Adelante a Nueva York. ¡Los resultados fueran espectacular!
Los abogacía de los miembros ayudó a elegir a Eric Adams, primero como nuestro candidato demócrata preferido en las elecciones primarias y luego en las elecciones generales. Estamos muy orgullosos de que el 1 de enero de 2022 Eric Leroy Adams fue nombrado oficialmente como alcalde número 110 de la ciudad de Nueva York. Nuestro nuevo Alcalde estaba encantado con el respaldo de HHWA. Ese mismo día, la IUJAT y la HHWA se pararon en los escalones del Queens Borough Hall con otros que buscaban el respaldo político del sindicato, mientras un fuerte contingente de miembros de la IUJAT y la HHWA se manifestaban ante la prensa de Nueva York, quienes estaban reunidos.
Ese mismo día respaldamos a Adrienne Adams para el Concejo Municipal. ¡Hoy ha sido elegida Presidente del Concejo Municipal de Nueva York!
Presidente del Concejo Municipal Adams estaba bien agredecida del respaldo politico de los sindicatos y compartió el tremendo respeto que tiene por miembros del sindicato. Ella anunció: “Este respaldo es poderoso, dorado y se agradece.”
